The Police are investigating a 28-year-old man for lodging a false report.

On 19 August 2017 at about 1.39am, the man lodged a report alleging that his motorcycle which was parked near a rubbish collection centre infront of Blk 68 Lorong 5 Toa Payoh was stolen.

Officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted follow-up investigations and detected many inconsistencies. It was eventually established that the man had provided false information to the Police by claiming he was a victim of motorcycle theft.

Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
