The Police are investigating a 33-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.
On 6 September 2017 at about 7.52pm, the man lodged a report alleging that he was robbed of his handphone and cash amounting to $4000 along Yishun Avenue 7.
Upon receipt of the report, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive enquiries and detected several inconsistencies during the course of investigations. It was eventually established that he had provided false information to the Police.
Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that Police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigate into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false Police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
