The Police are investigating a 29-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false police report.
On 24 September 2017 at about 10.32 am, the man made a police report, alleging that an unknown man had robbed him of his mobile phone along Simei Street 3 at about 4.30 am on the same day.
During the course of investigations, several inconsistencies were detected and it was established that the man had provided false information to the Police and he was not a victim of robbery.
Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he knows or believes to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies rather than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
