The Police have arrested three men aged between 45 to 64, for their suspected involvement in two separate cases of snatch theft. Both cases were reported on 24 September 2017, along Race Course Road and Jalan Bukit Merah respectively.

For the first case that took place along Race Course Road, the Police received a report of a snatch theft on 24 September 2017 at about 11.20am, whereby two suspects had allegedly snatched a gold chain from a 63-year-old woman and fled. Central Police Division officers responded swiftly to the case and arrested the first suspect, a 55-year-old man, at scene. The stolen gold chain was also recovered and seized as a case exhibit. Through follow-up investigations, his 45-year-old accomplice was arrested the next day along Commonweath Crescent.

The Police were alerted to a second case of snatch theft on 24 September 2017 at about 5.00pm, which occurred inside the lift of a block of flats located at Jalan Bukit Merah. The 72-year-old female victim was taking a lift with the male suspect when the latter allegedly snatched her bag containing $50/- in cash and a mobile phone before he fled.

Upon receipt of the report, officers from Central Police Division conducted immediate follow-up investigations and with the aid of Police cameras, the 64-year-old suspect was identified and arrested along Jalan Bukit Merah on the same day at about 6.30pm.

The trio will be charged in Court on 26 September 2017 with an offence of Snatch Theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning.
