The Police have arrested a 27-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman for a series of cheating by impersonation.

On 13 December 2017, the Police received a report from a retail shop that someone had redeemed gift vouchers using e-vouchers. These e-vouchers were subsequently found to be invalid.

Upon receipt of the information, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive follow-up investigations and arrested the duo on 1 February 2018 at Rivervale Crescent. They were found in possession of several identity cards including forged identity cards. Preliminary investigations also revealed that both of them could be involved in a series of cheating by impersonation using the forged identity cards to apply for several handphone lines with telecommunications companies.

The duo will be charged in Court on 3 February 2018 for conspiracy to commit cheating by personation under Section 419 read with Section 109 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, they may be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 5 years, or with fine or with both.
