Two Robbers Arrested With Assistance From The Royal Malaysia Police

The Police have arrested two men aged 30 and 33, for their suspected involvement in a case of gang robbery.

On 11 December 2017 at about 3.10am, the Police were alerted to a case of robbery involving $300,000, reported along Rowell Road.

Officers from Central Police Division had conducted extensive investigative probes and established that a total of 12 suspects were involved in the gang robbery. In a series of operations between 11 December 2017 and 8 January 2018, ten suspects had been arrested and prosecuted in court. The remaining two men were subsequently established to have fled from Singapore to Malaysia after the commission of offence.

On 12 April 2018, the two men were arrested in Malaysia with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP). They were subsequently extradited to Singapore on the same day.

The two men will be charged in Court on 14 April 2018 with gang robbery punishable under Section 395 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. In addition, the 30-year-old man will be facing an additional offence of unlawful departure from Singapore under Section 5(4) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 133.

Anyone found guilty of gang robbery shall be punished with imprisonment for a term of not less than 5 years and not more than 20 years and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes. Anyone found guilty of unlawful departure from Singapore shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.

Commander of Central Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Arthur Law expressed his appreciation to the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) for their assistance in the arrest and said, “The two men were arrested with the assistance of the RMP, whom the SPF shares close ties with. The SPF will do its utmost to track down those who flee Singapore after committing crimes. With the assistance from foreign law enforcement agencies counterparts, we will ensure that justice is served.”
