The Police have arrested a 61-year-old man for his suspected involvement in two cases of snatch thefts at Yishun and Serangoon estates.

In the first case, on 23 November 2018 at 11.08 am, a 72-year-old woman reported to the Police that her gold chain and pendant were snatched by an unknown man at the void deck of Blk 325 Yishun Central.   

In the second case, on 13 December 2018 at 10.17 am, an 86- year-old woman alerted the Police that an unknown man had snatched away her gold chain and pendant at the void deck of Blk 139 Serangoon North Ave 2. 

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted investigations and established the identity of the suspect. The man was subsequently arrested on 13 December 2018. Cash amounting to $144, which is believed to be related to the second case, was seized. 

The man will be charged in the courts on 15 December 2018 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he will be punished with an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and shall also be liable to caning.
