The Police are investigating a 37-year-old woman who is believed to have lodged a false report.

On 18 December 2018 at about 4.35pm, the woman lodged a report alleging that an unknown man had robbed her along Senja Road.

During the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the woman’s account. It was established that she had provided false information to the Police by claiming that she had been a victim of robbery.

Investigations against the woman are ongoing. Anyone convicted of giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.

The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
