The Police have arrested a 47-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 3 March 2019 at about 4.50pm, the Police received a report that an unknown man had attempted to snatch a gold necklace from a 75-year-old female victim at Block 39 Chai Chee Avenue. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was in the same lift as the old lady and had followed her as she exited the lift. The man allegedly attempted to snatch the necklace from the old lady as she was walking to her unit.

With the aid of images from police cameras and ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Chai Chee Avenue at about 6.15pm on the same day.

The man will be charged in court on 5 March 2019 with attempted snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than one year, and not more than 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning.
