The Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of car rental scams on Carousell.

Between 25 February to 12 March 2019, the Police received several reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by an online seller who advertised the rental of luxury cars on Carousell. After payments were made by the victims via bank transfers, the man become evasive.

Through ground enquiries and follow-up investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him along Hougang Avenue 3 on 14 March 2019. The man is believed to be involved in at least four cases of car rental scam involving more than $12,000.

The man will be charged in court on 16 March 2019 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted for cheating, may be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
