The Police have arrested three men aged between 26 and 54, for their suspected involvement in a series of scams involving fraudulent subscription of mobile lines.

On 9 May 2019, the Police received a report that an elderly victim was promised a job but was instead induced to sign up for a mobile plan as a requirement for the job. The victim thereafter handed over the mobile contract, a smartphone and the SIM card worth at least S$1,000 to the suspects.

Through follow up investigations and ground enquiries, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identities of the three suspects and arrested them on 17 and 18 June 2019. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio is believed to be involved in other similar cases island wide.

The trio will be charged in court on 19 June 2019 for cheating with common intention under Section 420 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 which is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend up to 10 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.
