On 18 September 2019, the Police arrested a 50-year-old man for breaking conditions of bail punishable under Section 103(5) of the Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 68.

The man, who was on court bail, had turned up at the State Courts on 17 September 2019 for his sentencing for armed robbery and drug-related offences. While armed robbery is a non-bailable offence, the courts have the discretion to offer bail. Hence, when the proceedings adjourned for a court break, the man was able to leave the court room unescorted, because he was still on court bail. He was not required to be, nor could he be taken into Police custody during the break.

When he failed to return to court after the break, a warrant of arrest was issued and his court bail was revoked. The Police arrested the man a day later on 18 September 2019.
