The Police are investigating a 56-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false police report.

On 19 November 2020 at about 10.00am, the man lodged a police report alleging that he was robbed by two unknown man on 19 November 2020 at about 12 midnight at the vicinity of Geylang Lorong 18.

During the course of investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the man’s account. Preliminary investigations suggest that he had provided false information to the Police by claiming that he had been a victim of robbery.

Police investigations against the man are ongoing. The offence of giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant carries an imprisonment term which may extend to one year, or a fine which may extend to $5,000, or both.

The Police would like to remind the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
