The Police are investigating a 20-year-old man who is believed to have lodged a false report.
On 6 January 2020 at about 11.16pm, the Police received a report from the man claiming that he was robbed by a group of people in the vicinity of Bukit Batok Street 32.
During the course of investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division detected several inconsistencies in the man’s account. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had provided false information to the Police and was not a victim of robbery.
Investigations against the man are ongoing. Anyone convicted for giving any information which he or she knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with a fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
The Police would like to remind members of the public that police resources could have been put to better use in dealing with real crimes and emergencies than investigating into false reports or false information. Those who lodge false police reports or provide false information will face serious consequences under the law.
