The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 4 June 2021, the Police received a report from an e-commerce company that was purportedly deceived into believing that the refund requests submitted by “customers” were authentic. As a result, the company proceeded to refund the amounts to the “customers”. These claims were believed to be fraudulently made by the “customers”, as the items had actually been delivered.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man believed to have made the fraudulent refund requests and arrested him on 10 June 2021. Items such as cameras, video games and a computer monitor were seized as exhibits. Preliminarily investigations revealed that the man is allegedly involved in fraudulent refunds of items worth more than $16,000.

The man will be charged in court on 11 June 2021 with cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which is punishable with an imprisonment term that may extend to ten years and a fine.
