The Police have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of attempted housebreaking along Serangoon Road.

On 5 October 2021 at about 8.50am, the Police received a report that the glass display case of a shop along Serangoon Road was found to be shattered. No items were reported missing.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within six hours of the report being made. Items such as a pair of gloves and a hammer were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 7 October 2021 with attempted housebreaking under Section 451, read with Section 511 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended;

  • Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition;

  • Refrain from keeping large sums of cash at commercial premises; and

  • Secure all valuable property under lock and key.
