The Police would like to alert the public to remain vigilant against a phishing scam where scammers would send an SMS to deceive recipients into clicking on a phishing link to a fake Singpass website.

In these cases, the victims received unsolicited SMS from unknown senders such as “73333”. The message indicated that the victims’ Singpass account had expired, and victims had to access the link embedded within the SMS to reactivate their Singpass accounts. The phishing link led victims to a fake website that requests Singpass users to enter their login ID, password and 2FA details. The fake website appeared visually similar to the Singpass login webpage but had an illegitimate URL with multiple broken image links on the page. Singpass users have reported the suspicious SMS and fake website, and the fake website has been blocked promptly.

The Police would like to remind members of the public to remain hyper-vigilant and adopt the following precautionary measures:

  1. Do not click on unverified links from unknown senders. Singpass does not send SMS with hyperlinks;

  2. Always check the website domain before entering your Singpass ID and password. The official website for Singpass is singpass.gov.sg;

  3. When in doubt, always verify the authenticity of the message directly with the agency that sent the message. You may contact Singpass helpdesk at 6335 3533.

You may take the following steps if you suspect that you have fallen prey to such phishing sites:

  1. Reset your Singpass password at go.gov.sg/reset-sp-pw; and

  2. Check your Singpass transaction history for any suspicious activities; and

  3. Lodge a police report via the ePC channel or submit details of the incident online via www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.

If you have information related to such crimes, please call the Police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or make a submission at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.  All information will be kept strictly confidential.

For more information on scams, members of the public can visit www.scamalert.sg or call the Anti-Scam Hotline at 1800-722-6688.
