The Police have arrested one 14-year-old male teenager and one 36-year-old man for their suspected involvement in a case of robbery. Another 31-year-old woman was also arrested for her suspected involvement in relation to a separate incident of theft in dwelling with common intention for dishonestly receiving stolen property.

On 14 October 2022 at about 9.55pm, the Police were alerted to a case of robbery at a commercial unit at 865 Mountbatten Road, where the male teenager and man purportedly entered the unit and threatened the male victim with a lighter shaped as a gun. The duo then allegedly restrained the victim and stole cash amounting to about $900 from the victim. They subsequently fled the scene with the money after the victim shouted for help and the gun-shaped lighter was left behind at the scene. No one was hurt during the incident.

Through extensive investigations and with the aid from CCTVs and Police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division, Criminal Investigation Department, and Police Intelligence Department established the identities of the duo and arrested them within 24 hours of the reported incident. Cash was recovered from the duo and seized as case exhibits.

Further investigations also revealed that the duo were also involved in another separate case of theft in dwelling along Sims Place on 15 October 2022 at about 12.30am. A 40-year-old female victim allegedly lost two watches, a necklace and a bag. In relation to this case, one 31-year-old woman was arrested for dishonestly receiving stolen property under Section 411 of the Penal Code 1871. One necklace was recovered from her and seized as case exhibit. Police investigations are ongoing.

The 14-year-old male teenager and 36-year-old man will be charged in court on 17 October 2022 with robbery, under Section 392 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted for robbery committed after 7pm and before 7am, the offender shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of not less than three years, and not more than 14 years, and shall also be punished with caning with not less than 12 strokes.

The offence of dishonestly receiving stolen property under Section 411 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of five years, a fine or both. Anyone convicted for the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871 shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years and a fine.

The Police will not tolerate criminal acts which display a blatant disregard of the law and will spare no effort to bring those responsible for such reprehensible acts to justice.

Commander of Bedok Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Wong Xing Shun commended the officers for solving the case swiftly and said, “CCTV cameras, together with assistance from the community and good detective work, allowed the Police to solve the case within 24 hours.
