On 18 October 2022, four members of the public received the Public Spiritedness Award (PSA) from Tanglin Police Division. The four PSA recipients were recognised for their valiant efforts in assisting the Police in two separate cases.
In the first case, on 27 June 2022, Mr Cheong Pin Pin, Mr Tang Shiau Khoon and Mr See Yong Chun had assisted the Police to detain a man for a case of obscene act and wilful trespass after Mr Cheong Pin Pin spotted a man behaving suspiciously.
In the second case, on 31 July 2022, Mr Brian Lau was at Clarke Quay when he saw a man running towards him and heard a woman shouting for help. Mr Lau managed to detain the man until the arrival of the Police. The man was subsequently arrested for outrage of modesty.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Cheong Chee Ming, Commander of Tanglin Police Division expressed his appreciation to the award recipients for their public spiritedness. He said, “Their actions are a testament of the strong partnership between the Police and the community, which is one of the key reasons why Singapore continues to be one of the safest countries in the world.”
Police officers cannot be everywhere at the same time. It is only with the strong support of the community can the Singapore Police Force achieve our mission to prevent, deter and detect crime.”
