Two men, aged 36 and 37, will be charged in court on 6 November 2023 with offences in relation to a case of outrage of modesty.
On 16 September 2023, Police officers were patrolling along Connaught Drive when they came across a dispute between two men. It was established that a 36-year-old man had allegedly molested a 20-year-old female victim along Connaught Drive. Another 37-year-old man, who was known to the 36-year-old man, then allegedly got into a fight with a 25-year-old man and pushed another 24-year-old woman during a scuffle. Both the 25-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were known to the female victim.
Both men will be charged in court on 6 November 2023 for the following offences:
- The 36-year-old man will be charged with one count of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871.
- The 37-year-old man will be charged with one count of criminal force under Section 352 of the Penal Code 1871, one count of voluntarily causing hurt under Section 323 of the Penal Code 1871, and one count of affray under Section 267B of the Penal Code 1871.
The offence of outrage of modesty carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, caning, or any combination of such punishments. The offence of criminal force carries an imprisonment term of up to 3 months, or a fine of up to $1,500, or both. The offence of voluntarily causing hurt carries an imprisonment term of up to 3 years, or with fine of up to $5,000, or both. The offence of affray carries an imprisonment term of up to one year, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the personal safety of the community, as well as acts of violence with blatant disregard of the law. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.
