The Bazaar Raya Geylang Serai 2024 will take place from 8 March 2024 and will end on 10 April 2024. Large crowds are expected at the bazaar, especially during the weekends. The Police would like to advise the public to remain vigilant against the following crimes by adopting the following measures:

  1. Theft

    • Never leave your personal belongings unattended in public places

    • Do not be distracted by strangers creating a commotion or accidentally bumping/spilling something onto you;

    • Do not wear excessive gold jewellery and carrying large amount of cash; and

    • Avoid placing your wallet in your back pocket and always remember to sling your handbag in front of you and ensure that it is fastened or zipped at all times.

  2. Outrage of Modesty 

    • Be alert to your surroundings. Where possible, move away if someone stands or sits exceptionally close to you;

    • If you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a crowded area or call the Police for assistance;

    • Stay close to your friends or move around in groups when in crowded places; and

    • If you are molested, call for help immediately by shouting, or seek help from people nearby to increase the chances of apprehending the culprit. Call ‘999’ as soon as possible.

SCAM AWARENESS

The Police would like to remind members of the public to be wary of the following scams when purchasing online or seeking to rent vehicles in preparation for the festivities:

  1. E-Commerce Scam
    • Scammers target online shoppers by enticing them with cheap deals but become uncontactable and will not deliver the goods after payments are made.

  2. Car Rental Scam

    • Scammers target victims with cheap car rental deals via online advertisements which promise quick and seamless delivery after payment has been made. Scammers became uncontactable and did not deliver the vehicle.

Fighting scams is a community effort. ACT against scams to safeguard our community by adopting the following precautionary measures:

  1. ADD - ScamShield App to protect yourself from scam calls and SMSes. Set security features (e.g. set up transaction limits for internet banking transactions, enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), Multifactor Authentication for banks and e-wallets).

  2. CHECK - for scam signs and with official sources (e.g. visit www.scamalert.sg or call the Anti-scam Helpline on 1800-722-6688)

  3. TELL - authorities, family, and friends about scams. Report the fraudulent transactions to your bank.

 

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

During this period, heavy vehicular traffic is expected along Changi Road and Sims Avenue. Motorists are advised to avoid the affected roads, make alternative travel arrangements, and drive cautiously. Auxiliary police officers will be deployed at affected road junctions to regulate traffic and assist motorists. Strict enforcement action will also be taken against illegal parking.
 
ADVISORY AGAINST SPARKLER EXPLOSIVES

The Police takes a serious view of anyone who sets off sparkler explosives. Such explosives are a potential fire hazard, and can cause undue alarm to the public, as well as injuries and damage to property. Anyone caught setting off such sparkler explosives may be prosecuted in court for rash or negligent conduct with respect to dangerous or harmful substance under Section 284 of the Penal Code 1871. Should the act be likely to cause hurt or injury to any other person or endanger human life and if convicted, the offender will be liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to one year or fine up to S$5,000, or with both. Should the act cause hurt to any other person and if convicted, the offender will be liable to an imprisonment term which may extend to 3 years, or with fine, or with both.
