A total of 14 men and 48 women, aged between 21 and 75, are being investigated for various offences, following a series of enforcement operation conducted from 28 February to 2 March 2024. These operations are part of SPF’s ongoing efforts to target illegal and criminal activities. 

The operation was led by Tanglin Police Division and supported by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Health Sciences Authority (HSA).

The details of some of these operations are as follows:

  1. Between 28 February to 29 February 2024, officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted enforcement operations against various massage establishments and commercial units located along Balestier Road, Orchard Road, Thomson Road and River Valley Road.  22 women, aged between 23 and 46, were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter Act 1961. 

  2. On 28 February 2024, officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted an enforcement operation against illegal gambling activities in the vicinity of Whampoa. A total of five men, aged between 65 and 75, were arrested for offences under the Gambling Control Act 2022. Cash amounting to over $2,300, mobile phones and other gambling-related paraphernalia were seized as case exhibits. Under Section 18(3)(a) of the Gambling Control Act 2022, any individual who conducts betting operations, gaming or lotteries unlawfully, shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to a fine of up to $200,000 and imprisonment of up to five years. Under Section 20(2) of the Gambling Control Act 2022, any individual who gambles with another person in or from any place or premises in Singapore and knows, or ought reasonably to have known, that the place or premises is an unlawful gambling place shall be guilty of an offence and be liable on conviction to a fine of up to $10,000 or imprisonment of up to six months or both. 

  3. Between 1 March to 2 March 2024, officers from Tanglin Police Division, CID, MOM, SCDF, ICA and HSA conducted checks at public entertainment outlets located along Orchard Road. 12 women, aged between 25 and 35, were arrested for offences under the Women’s Charter 1961. Two men and eight women, aged between 21 and 43, were arrested for offences under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act 1990 (EFMA). One of the women arrested for offences under the EFMA and five other women, aged between 23 and 34 were arrested for suspected drug offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973. A 54-year-old man was arrested for offences under the Societies Act 1966 and a 58-year-old woman was arrested for offences under the Criminal Procedure Code 2010. Three of the arrested women and six other men, aged between 26 and 46, were caught with e-vaporisers which is an offence punishable under the Tobacco (Control of Advertisements and Sale) Act. 16 e-vaporisers were seized during the operation. Fire safety violations were also detected in two public entertainment outlets and SCDF will be following up with enforcement action.

Investigations against the 62 individuals are ongoing.

Commander of Tanglin Police Division, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Cheong Chee Ming said, “The joint operation led by Tanglin Police Division demonstrates the Police’s ongoing effort to keep the streets safe and secure for everyone. We will continue to sustain the tempo of operations, and work closely with other law enforcement agencies to take tough actions against those involved in illicit activities. Offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.”
