The Police have arrested three men aged 20 to 22 for their involvement in a case of housebreaking.
On 18 March 2024 at about 8.45 am, the Police were alerted to a case of housebreaking at an office located along Tanjong Pagar Road.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the men allegedly used an object believed to be a wrench, to smash the glass panel of the door before reaching his hand in to unlock the door from the inside. He later entered the premises along with two other men. The three men had masked themselves with helmets and long-sleeved attire when committing the crime.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV), officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the three men and arrested them on the same day within 10 hours.
The three men will be charged in court on 20 March 2024 with housebreaking to commit mischief with common intention under Section 451 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
The Police will spare no effort to apprehend those who commit violence and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law.
The Police would like to advise all property owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:
- Secure all doors, roller shutters, windows and other openings with good quality grilles and closed-shackle padlocks when leaving your premises unattended;
- Refrain from keeping large sums of cash in any premises;
- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or CCTVs, to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.
