Nine men, aged between 23 and 42, will be charged in court on 27 March 2024 for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. Two women, aged 25 and 27, will be charged for permitting another person to drive a motor car without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage.

The details of the cases are as follows:

  1. On 17 March 2024, a 31-year-old man was stopped for checks by a Police officer along Airport Boulevard. He was found to have been riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. He will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  2. On 3 March 2024, a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were stopped for checks by a Police officer along South Canal Road. The man was found to have been driving a car without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. The woman had permitted the man to drive the car despite knowing that he did not possess a valid driving licence. The man will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960. The woman will be charged for permitting another person to drive a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and permitting another person to use a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  3. On 25 February 2024, a 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were stopped for checks by a Police officer along Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim. They were both found to have been riding their motorcycles without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. Both men will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  4. On 7 February 2024, a 25-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were stopped for checks by a Police officer along Henderson Road. The man was found to have been driving a car without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. The woman had permitted the man to drive the car despite knowing that he did not possess a valid driving licence. The man will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960. The woman will be charged for permitting another person to drive a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(2) Road Traffic Act 1961 and permitting another person to use a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  5. On 1 February 2024, a 35-year-old man was stopped for checks by a Police officer along Sakra Road. He was found to have been riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. He will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  6. On 25 January 2024, a 26-year-old man was stopped for checks by a Police officer at Jurong Island. He was found to have been riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. He will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and driving a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  7. On 10 January 2024, a 33-year-old man was stopped for checks by a Police officer along Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim. He was found to have been riding the motorcycle without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. He will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

  8. On 26 October 2023, a 42-year-old man was stopped for checks by a Police officer along Admiralty Road. He was found to have been riding a motorcycle without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage. He will be charged for driving a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 and using a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act 1960.

The offences of driving or permitting another person to drive a motor vehicle without a valid driving licence under Section 35(1) and Section 35(2) of the Road Traffic Act 1961 both carries a fine of up to $10,000, or an imprisonment term of up to three years, or both. Repeat offenders are liable to a fine of up to $20,000, or an imprisonment term of up to six years, or both. The vehicle may also be forfeited.

The offence of using or permitting another person to use a motor vehicle without insurance coverage under Section 3(1) of the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1961 carries a fine of up to $1,000, or an imprisonment term of up to three months, or both.

The Traffic Police takes a serious view of those who drive without a valid driving licence and insurance coverage, including those who permit another person to do so. Such reckless and irresponsible acts endanger the safety of the driver and that of other road users. The Traffic Police will take firm action against those who disregard the law.
