The Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of motor vehicle.

On 29 March 2024 at about 2.17pm, the Police received a report from a victim stating that his lorry parked at the open space carpark along Redhill Road was purportedly stolen. The key to the lorry was allegedly left in the unlocked vehicle. 

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division and Woodlands Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 6 hours from the report. The stolen lorry was recovered.

The man will be charged in court on 30 March 2024 with the offence of theft of a motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all motor vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Park in well-lit areas;

  2. Install an anti-theft alarm for your motor vehicle and ensure it is well-maintained;

  3. Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when leaving the vehicle, even if  for a short while; and

  4. Remove the ignition key and lock the vehicle, whenever it is left unattended.
