The Police have arrested a 23-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a case of extortion.

On 11 April 2024 at about 3.50pm, the Police received a report on a case of extortion from a male victim who had procured escort services from an unknown woman. The woman then purportedly told the man that she would report him to the Police if he failed to give her money. Out of fear, the victim transferred a sum of $8450 via bank transfers over seven occasions.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV), officers from Central Police Division established the identity of the woman and arrested her on 15 April 2024.

The woman will be charged in court on 17 April 2024 with the offence of extortion under Section 384 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than two years and not more than seven years and with caning.
