The Police have arrested four men, aged between 17 and 19, for their suspected involvement in a case of attempted armed robbery and a case of attempted robbery.
On 28 May 2025 at about 1.44pm, the Police received a call for assistance at Block 432 Clementi Avenue 3, where two men had allegedly attempted to rob a victim. The victim, who had listed a luxury watch for sale on Carousell, had arranged to meet a potential buyer of the watch. When the victim arrived, the men, one of whom was armed with a knife, allegedly attempted to cover the victim’s head with a plastic bag. The victim managed to escape and called the Police.
Through follow-up investigations, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on 28 May 2025. The knife, which had been earlier discarded by the men, was recovered.
Further investigations revealed that the two men, along with another two men, had allegedly attempted a similar robbery on 27 May 2025. In that incident, the victim had also listed a luxury watch for sale on Carousell and was similarly lured to meet a potential buyer at the same HDB block. When the victim arrived at the block, he felt suspicious of the circumstances and managed to leave before being robbed. The other two men were subsequently arrested on 28 May 2025.
The two men involved in the incident on 28 May 2025 will be charged in court on 30 May 2025 with attempted armed robbery under Section 393 read with Section 397 of the Penal Code 1871. One of the men involved in the incident on 27 May 2025 will be charged in court on 30 May 2025 with attempted robbery under Section 393 of the Penal Code 1871, while the other man will be investigated for being part of a criminal conspiracy to commit robbery. The offence of attempted armed robbery is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 7 years, and not less than 12 strokes of the cane. The Police will spare no effort to arrest those who commit violent crimes and will take firm action against them in accordance with the law. Members of the public who encounter such cases are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
The Police would like to advise members of the public to be alert and attentive to their surroundings when meeting potential buyers or sellers or making transactions in person, especially when carrying valuables or large sums of cash. They should avoid going to secluded places and report any suspicious persons or activities to the Police immediately.
