The Police have arrested a 33-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of outrage of modesty cases onboard Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) trains.
On 15 May 2025, a member of the public lodged a police report stating that she witnessed a man allegedly touching a female victim inappropriately inside an MRT train.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTVs, officers from the Public Transport Security Command and Jurong Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 7 June 2025. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is believed to have been involved in other similar cases inside the MRT trains.
The man will be charged in court on 9 June 2025 with the offence of outrage of modesty punishable under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term, which may extend to three years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the personal safety of the community. Offenders will be dealt with sternly, in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with entertainment outlets, public transport operators, and the community, to prevent, deter and detect molestation cases. Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and to immediately report to the Police if they witness any incidents or are aware of someone being a victim of outrage of modesty.
