The Police have arrested a 21-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty against a minor.
On 21 July 2025 at about 6.45am, the Police received a report that an unknown man allegedly molested a 12-year-old girl while on board a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs, officers from Public Transport Security Command established the identity of the man and arrested him within 13 hours of the report.
The man will be charged in court on 23 July 2025 with the offence of outrage of modesty against a person below 14 years of age under section 354(2) of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 5 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments.
The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the personal safety of the community. Offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law. The Police will continue to work closely with various stakeholders, such as public entertainment outlets, public transport operators, and the community, to prevent, deter and detect molestation cases. The Police would like to urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report the matter to the Police immediately, if they witness an incident of molestation, or are aware of someone being a victim of molestation.
