The Police have arrested a 25-year-old male Indian national for his suspected involvement in a case of shop theft committed in the transit area of Changi Airport.
On 16 July 2025 at about 1.41pm, the Police were alerted to a case of shop theft at a retail outlet located in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 3. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had allegedly taken a bracelet and a pocket organiser, worth a total of S$1515, from the store’s display shelves and left without paying.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of CCTV footage, officers from Airport Police Division established the man’s identity. The man was arrested in the transit area within an hour of the report, preventing him from departing Singapore. The alleged stolen items were recovered from his possession.
The man will be charged in court on 18 August 2025 with the offence of theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871. If convicted, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 7 years, or with a fine, or with both.
The Police take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law. Offenders should not think that they can evade capture by quickly boarding a flight; the Police will continue to work closely with stakeholders to prevent and deter shop theft cases.
