Police have arrested a 17-year-old man for his suspected involvement in two separate cases of Outrage of Modesty.

On 29 January 2015 at about 6.59pm, a 15-year-old girl informed police that she had been molested by an unidentified man in a lift at Hougang Ave 8. At about 8.14pm on the same day, Police received another similar report involving a 12-year-old girl in a lift at Hougang Ave 10. Following these reports, officers from the Hougang Neighbourhood Police Centre of Ang Mo Kio Police Division immediately conducted extensive ground enquiries to establish the identity of the suspect. Within six hours upon receiving the first information, officers arrested him at Hougang Avenue 8 on 30 January 2015 at about 12.30am.

The 17-year-old suspect will be charged in Court on 31 January 2015 for Outrage of Modesty, under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he may face with an imprisonment term of up to two years and caning.

Police would like to advise the public to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Be aware and alert of your surroundings. If you see any suspicious character, or you suspect that you are being followed, remain calm and proceed to a crowded area or call the Police for assistance;

  • Do not enter the lift with a stranger; and

  • If you are molested, immediately shout for help or activate your shrill alarm. Take note of the description of the culprit, the direction and mode of escape taken by the culprit. Call ‘999’ as soon as it is safe to do so.
