The Police have arrested a 56-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.
On 11 February 2019 at about 2.40pm, the Police received a report that an unknown man had snatched a gold chain from a 76-year-old woman along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5. Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 on 12 February 2019, at about 10pm.
The man will be charged in court on 14 February 2019 with snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he faces a jail term of not less than one year and not more than 7 years, and shall also be liable to caning.
The Police would like to remind members of the public that they may carry a shrill alarm and use it to scare off the culprit or to attract the attention of other members of the public.
