Two Assisting with Investigations in Connection with False Message of Alleged Kidnapping at Jurong Point Shopping Centre

The Police are aware of a false message circulating that two children were allegedly kidnapped from Jurong Point Shopping Centre on 29 March 2017, and that two men were arrested. As clarified by the Police on 30 March 2017, the message is not true and there were no reports made to the Police of a child kidnapping incident.

 

In connection with the false message, a 45-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman are assisting with investigations into an offence of Causing Alarm, under Section 4 of the Protection from Harassment Act, Chapter 256A. .

 

Anyone found guilty of Causing Alarm under the said section shall be liable to a fine not exceeding S$5000. Investigations are ongoing.

 

The Police would like to advise the public against spreading unsubstantiated information which may generate unnecessary public alarm. The Police takes a very stern view against anyone who knowingly spreads false information to mislead the public and will not hesitate to take action against such individuals.
