The Police have arrested a 16-year-old teenager for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

Between 10 and 19 January 2020, the Police received multiple reports from victims who were purportedly cheated by the seller who advertised Universal Studios Singapore (USS) tickets at a discounted price on Carousell. After making payment to the seller via bank transfers, he became uncontactable and did not deliver the tickets.

Through follow-up investigations, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the teenager and arrested him on 11 March 2020.

Police investigations are ongoing.

The Police would like to advise members of the public to be very careful when making online purchases:

  1. Don’t Panic - Be rational when considering purchases and do not buy on impulse.

  2. Don’t Believe - Scammers may use a local bank account or provide a copy of an NRIC/driver’s licence to show that they are genuine sellers. Do not fall for this!

  3. Don’t Give - Avoid making payments or deposits in advance. Use shopping platforms/arrangements that release your payments to the seller only upon receipt of the item(s). Buy only from reputable websites/platforms.
