The Police have arrested a 19 year-old youth for his suspected involvement in a series of cheating cases.

On 4 September 2020, the Police were alerted to a case where the victim, a deliveryman, was purportedly cheated by a man who pretended to be a customer of the delivery service. The victim was directed to deliver an item from a seller and was asked by the man to make upfront payment to the seller first, under assurance that he will be paid back upon making the delivery. After receiving the item, the victim was directed to a non-existent delivery location. The man, who was also impersonating as the seller all along, became uncontactable thereafter.

Through investigations and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 10 September 2020. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is also believed to be involved in other cheating cases of a similar nature.

The man will be charged in court on 11 September 2020 with the offence of cheating. Anyone found guilty of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 may be punished with imprisonment for up to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine.
