Police Advisory – Phishing Scams Involving Fake Singtel Website

The Police would like to alert the public of a phishing scam involving fake emails purportedly sent by Singtel with fraudulent URL link imbedded.

In these cases, victims would receive an e-mail purportedly from ‘Singtel’, indicating that they have won a cash prize or are eligible to claim a cashback or gift. Victims are required to click on the URL link that directed them to a fake Singtel webpage to provide their bank information and One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to claim the prize, cashback or gift. The victims  only realised that they have been scammed after they discovered that unauthorised transactions had been made in their bank accounts.

The following three are the URLs that are impersonating Singtel’s website:

  • http://sgsingtel.net/sin/cc1.php

  • https://sgsingtel.net/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi

  • https://sgsingtel.net/sing

The number of non-banking related phishing scams increased by 1,214% to 644 in 2020, from 49 in 2019. The total amount cheated increased to at least S$981,000 in 2020, from at least S$72,000 in 2019.

Members of the public are advised to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  1. Be wary of URL links provided in unsolicited advertisements and text messages, especially those related to deals that seem too good to be true;

  2. Always verify the authenticity of the information with the official website or sources;

  3. Never disclose your personal or Internet banking details and OTP to anyone; and

  4. Report any fraudulent transaction involving your e-payment accounts to the e-payment service provider immediately.

If you have information related to such crimes or if you are in doubt, please call the Police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness.  Please call ‘999’ if you require urgent Police assistance.
