Industry Safety and Security Watch Group

Content Overview

SSWG

The twin threats of crime and terrorism remain a concern and it is critical that the business community works hand-in-hand with the Home Team to fight current and emerging safety and security concerns.

Geographic-based SSWGs have enabled commercial establishments located in close proximity to institute common safety and security measures to protect against a localised terror attack or crime. However, it may not sufficiently address the safety and security concerns at the industry-level as the impact of a terrorist attack or any other disaster could affect the entire supply chain, thereby affecting the country’s economic well-being.

The Industry Safety and Security Watch Group (iSSWG) was hence introduced to address this gap. With the formation of the iSSWG, Police can systematically engage selected industries on safety and security issues at a more holistic level. It also promotes the strengthening of ties between the police and industrial associations to fight crime and terrorism and enhances existing engagements for greater robustness and long-term sustainability. As industries differ in risk-vulnerability and mode of operations, the iSSWG engagements would be customised to adequately meet the needs of respective industries.
