On 24 December 2025 at about 2.50pm, the Police were alerted to a case of snatch theft along Redhill Close, where an unknown man had purportedly snatched a plastic bag containing cash from an elderly male victim. The man subsequently ran away.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Clementi Police Division and Police Operations Command Centre established the identity of the man and arrested him, along with a male teenager, believed to be his accomplice, within four hours of the report. The stolen cash amounting to $1625 was recovered.
The duo will be charged in court on 26 December 2025 with the offence of snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years and shall also be liable to caning.
The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law. Members of the public who encounter such cases are advised to remain calm, take note of the physical appearance and distinctive features of the perpetrator, and call for the Police as soon as possible.
