The Police have arrested four male Chinese nationals, aged between 40 and 50, for their suspected involvement in a series of theft cases.
Between 1 and 14 April 2026, several cases of theft were reported in the vicinity of VivoCity, Marina Bay Sands, and Palawan Beach, Sentosa. The men targeted unattended bags and personal belongings of individuals who were distracted or not vigilant with their possessions at crowded places, shopping malls and popular tourist spots.
Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV, officers from Clementi Police Division, Central Police Division and Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the men and arrested them on 14 April 2026.
The four men will be charged in court on 16 April 2026 with the offence of theft with common intention under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or both.
The Police take a firm stance against offenders who commit theft, and such offenders will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law. The Police would like to advise members of the public to be aware of common theft methods, where culprits target unattended bags. These opportunistic criminals wait for moments when bag owners are distracted to quickly snatch bags and flee. Members of the public are advised to always keep their bags within arm's reach.
