Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SAC) Lee Huan Ting (李焕庭) assumed command of Tanglin Police Division on 19 October 2026. He took over from SAC Cheong Chee Ming (张志明), who will be retiring from the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
SAC Cheong, 57, joined the SPF in 1994. In his 32 years with the SPF, SAC Cheong has held several key appointments, including Commander of Airport Police Division, Director of International Cooperation Department, Deputy Commander of Tanglin Police Division, and Deputy Director (Special Projects) of Manpower Department. He also served as the Deputy Director of the Operations Readiness Control Division at the Ministry of Health.
SAC Lee, 38, joined the SPF in 2007. In his 19 years with the SPF, he has held several key appointments, including Deputy Commander of Central Police Division, Head of Technical Research in the Police Intelligence Department, and Commanding Officer of Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre. He has also served as the Director of the Information Policy Division at the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, and the Assistant Director of the Policy Development Division at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Under SAC Cheong’s leadership, Tanglin Police Division maintained strong operational readiness and led numerous enforcement operations to combat illegal and criminal activities within its jurisdiction. As Commander, SAC Cheong has also successfully led his officers in numerous security deployments, including the 2020 and 2025 General Elections, 2023 Presidential Election, the annual Shangri-La Dialogue, year-end Christmas celebrations at Orchard Road and the National Day Parade. The success of these major deployments required extensive security planning, traffic management, and close coordination with other Police units and partner agencies.
SAC Cheong fostered a robust training culture within the Division through numerous training exercises to strengthen its readiness and response to law and order incidents and contingencies. He also strengthened the Division’s outreach through crime prevention initiatives such as the Safe Clubbing Campaign 2026, which was organised in partnership with the National Crime Prevention Council and the nightlife industry partners at Zouk on 12 September 2026.
SAC Cheong’s leadership was also instrumental in the successful investigation and resolution of several notable cases. These include the swift arrest of three foreign nationals involved in a series of housebreaking and theft cases at the private residential estates along Cluny Park, Dunearn Close and Eng Neo Avenue in May 2025 within 27 hours of the first report; the arrest of a British woman for a series of cheating cases in March 2025 that came to light after the victims recognised her as a scammer featured in a documentary, and the arrest of five Filipino nationals involved in a case of theft of approximately $155,600 in cash from a male victim at Tang Plaza Orchard underpass in September 2026, on the same day the report was lodged.
Reflecting on his tenure as Commander of Tanglin Police Division, SAC Cheong said, “It has been a great honour and privilege to be given the opportunity to lead Tanglin Police Division and serve alongside all the officers. I am deeply grateful for their unwavering commitment and dedication to duty in our fight against crime and safeguarding Singapore. I wish to convey my sincere gratitude to our volunteers, community partners and stakeholders for their steadfast support and close collaboration with the Police in our collective commitment to keeping Singapore safe and secure. I wish officers in the Tanglin Police Division all the best, and I am confident that the Division will continue to reach new heights and achieve even greater success under the new leadership of SAC Lee Huan Ting.”
