On the evening of 30 December 2025, the Esplanade Concert Hall resonated not only with music, but also history. As the Singapore Police Force (SPF) Band took to the stage for its Centennial Gala Concert, each note told a story that began in 1925.

Graced by Guest-of-Honour Ms Sim Ann, Senior Minister of State (SMS), Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Home Affairs, the event also marked the finale of a year-long celebration honouring the SPF Band’s transformation from the Second Straits Settlement Police Band into a distinguished musical institution recognised at home and abroad.

From the Parade Ground to the World Stage

With the theme of “Bringing the Beat to You Since 1925,” the Concert traced the Band’s evolution through music. The programme featured classical works, original compositions and contemporary arrangements by current and former SPF Band officers – a musical tribute to the generations of officers who’ve upheld the Band’s tradition of excellence.

One highlight of the evening was the premiere of “Bringing the Beat to You”, an original work by Superintendent of Police (Supt) Sulaiman Abdul Wahab, Director of Music of the SPF Band. Written in honour of the Band’s centennial milestone, the composition is a dynamic piece that celebrates the Band’s history while reflecting its modern role as a forward-looking ensemble.

A Shared Stage, a Shared Purpose

In a reflection of the Band’s role as a bridge between the Force and the community, the Concert featured several firsts. Seven members of the public from the SPF’s Episodic Volunteering Programme performed together with the Band, while nine Police officers from various frontline units showcased their talents as dancers and musicians.

Their performances demonstrated how music transcends uniforms and roles – uniting officers, volunteers and the community through a shared sense of purpose and pride.

Another highlight of the evening was a performance of “Go the Distance” and “Bringing the Beat to You” by singer-songwriter Mr Taufik Batisah, who previously served his National Service (NS) with the SPF Band. His return to the stage served as a homecoming and a reminder of how the Band has shaped lives as an institution.

Bringing the Beat

For a century, the SPF Band has been a familiar presence at National Day Parades, ceremonial occasions, community events and even on the world stage, representing the SPF’s values through the universal language of music.

As the Concert drew to a close and the guests showed their appreciation with applause, it affirmed the SPF Band – not only as musicians in Police uniform, but as storytellers of the Force who continue to bring the beat to the nation.
