The Police have arrested a 43-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of theft of a vehicle component part.

On 21 July 2021 at about 4.25 pm, the Police received a report from a victim who informed that the battery from his lorry was stolen while it was parked at an open-space carpark located along Whampoa Drive.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTV and Police cameras, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him on 29 July 2021.

Police investigations are ongoing. The offence of theft of a motor vehicle or any of its component parts, under Section 379A of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

The Police would like to advise all vehicle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park in well-lit areas;

  • Install an anti-theft alarm system; and

  • Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while.
