Man Arrested For Snatch Theft Within Three Hours

The Police have arrested a 60-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft.

On 13 October 2023 at about 3pm, the Police were alerted to a case of snatch theft along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1, where an elderly female victim’s gold necklace was allegedly snatched away by an unknown man.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division and the Police Operations Command Centre established the identity of the man. On the same day, at about 5pm, officers from Central Police Division spotted the man at the vicinity of Serangoon Road and arrested him. The stolen necklace and cash amounting to $570 were recovered and seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 14 October 2023 with the offence of snatch theft under Section 356 of the Penal Code 1871. The offence carries an imprisonment term of not less than one year and not more than seven years, and caning.

The Police will not tolerate such brazen acts of crime and will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
