Man To Be Charged For Cheating Tampines Town Council

A 58-year-old man will be charged in court on 13 March 2024 for deceiving Tampines Town Council into overpaying for water pump replacements. 

Between April 2016 to July 2017, the man was a director of the then-term contractor engaged by Tampines Town Council for pump maintenance works for the estate. During this period, he allegedly submitted 203 invoices to bill Tampines Town Council more than $380,000 for the installation of multi-stage water pumps when significantly cheaper, single-stage water pumps were installed instead.

The man will be charged with two counts of cheating offences under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to 10 years and a fine.
