Getting your dance game on and vibing to DJs spinning out top hits and dance beats? Go right ahead but the Police wants you to stay safe while at it!
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) launched the Smart Clubbing Campaign 2023 on 19 January 2023. This is the third edition of the Campaign, following successful editions in 2018 and 2019. As the public entertainment industry emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Campaign is a timely reminder that a safe nightlife scene is a shared responsibility between clubbers and clubs.
The Smart Club Checklist
Recommended best practices for Smart Clubbing were shared with guests at the launch event. These include handy tips on how clubs can create a safer environment for their patrons and staff, like deploying adequate and easily identifiable security staff; having enhanced checks upon entry; and enhancing the training of staff to deal with incidents involving intoxicated or uncooperative patrons. Clubs can also implement simple measures such as having crime prevention posters, brighter lights and CCTVs to support law enforcement requests.
Don’t Touch, Don’t Fight, Don’t Steal!
New collaterals were also rolled out at the launch event. These featured new Smart Clubbing posters, stickers and coaster designs.
The penalties for fighting, stealing and committing acts related to outrage of modesty were prominently displayed.
For patrons, the message is clear – be a Smart Clubber, and drink and behave responsibly.
A Shared Responsibility by All
The SPF, industry players and patrons all have a part to play to ensure a safe and secure nightlife scene. The Police will continue to do its part by conducting regular checks on public entertainment outlets and continuing to engage clubs on crime prevention measures.
At public-entertainment-related crime hotspots, the Police will also deploy more tech tools such as the SPF’s Enhanced Mobicam, which is equipped with cameras as well as visual and audio broadcasting capabilities to remind patrons to be law-abiding.
