Meet the new Police patrol robots at Changi Airport, the latest addition to the Singapore Police Force’s (SPF) technological arsenal.

Capabilities of the Patrol Robot

Each patrol robot comes with in-built speakers to broadcast audio messages and a rear LCD panel to display visual messages. During an incident, it can deploy interim intervention measures such as blinkers, siren and speakers to enforce a cordon or warn bystanders prior to the arrival of Police officers.

The patrol robot is also equipped with an extendable mast of up to 2.3 metres and a camera with a 360-degree field of view, allowing the Airport Police Operations Room to have an unobstructed view of the ground situation for better incident management.

Members of the public can also readily activate a button located on the robot’s front to communicate directly with the Police.

Patrol Robots as Force Multipliers

Since April 2023, the SPF has deployed two patrol robots at Changi Airport Terminal 4 to augment frontline Police officers in conducting premises patrol and serve as additional eyes on the ground as well as help project police presence in the airport terminal. More robots will be progressively deployed across Singapore.

Superintendent of Police Lim Ke Wei, Head Operations at the Airport Police Division, said, “The integration of robotics enhances the operational efficiency and capabilities of our frontline officers, enabling them to be more effective in their duties.”
