I'm SSSgt Mohamad Faizal from the Police Security Command, and I'm a Personal Security Officer (PSO).
As PSOs, our key task is to ensure the safety and security of our VIPs and visiting foreign dignitaries. We undergo rigorous training in close protection tactics, tactical firearms application and advanced vehicle manoeuvring tactics, amongst other skill sets. This enables us to respond swiftly and effectively to any incident when required.
As our VIPs frequently meet members of the public and attend events, a challenge that we face is learning how to strike a balance between carrying out our duties and being mindful not to impede our VIPs' daily activities. This is a valuable skill that all PSOs gain with experience.
The ground situation is dynamic, and being a PSO means that we will always have to be vigilant and alert. This is why you probably always find us ‘looking fierce’ and not smiling. We have a job to do, and we hope you understand!
This job comes with a strong sense of duty and fulfilment, and that is exactly why I chose to be a PSO.
