SPF Veterans: ASP Herman, Four Generations of Service

For ASP Herman, policing runs in the family. As the third generation in a proud line of officers, he has witnessed the evolution of the SPF while staying true to its core mission – keeping Singapore safe.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nor Herman As’ari of Queenstown Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) followed the footsteps of his grandfather and uncle when he joined the Force in 1994, continuing a proud family tradition of service.

Growing up, he was inspired by the dedication and courage of Police officers, and with the full support of his late parents, he successfully completed six months of training to become a full-fledged police officer. Today, that legacy lives on with his nephew recently joining SPF, marking four generations of his family serving in the Force.

One of his most unforgettable moments came in 2021, during a high-stakes manhunt for a murder suspect in Jurong East. A single drop of blood led him and his team into a pitch-dark forested area, where they finally caught the armed suspect lying in wait. “It was a moment of relief – we knew we had stopped further harm and ensured justice was served,” he recalled.

Having witnessed the evolution of the SPF – from the introduction of body-worn cameras to advancements like PolCams – he appreciates how technology has strengthened frontline policing. When he’s off duty, you’ll find ASP Herman cruising the open roads of Malaysia and Thailand on his motorbike – a way to recharge and stay sharp for the hurdles ahead.

“Maintain a positive attitude and eagerness to learn new things.” True to his words, ASP Herman approaches every challenge with enthusiasm and unwavering passion, always ready to learn and grow.

For him, policing isn’t just a job – it’s a lifelong commitment.
