The Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of job scam.

On 16 November 2022, the Police received a report from a victim who had allegedly fallen prey to a job scam ruse. The victim, who is a foreign national, had responded to an online job advertisement and was subsequently contacted by the scammer to handover cash totaling to $500 purportedly for the application of work permit and accommodation. After handing over the money, the scammer continued to request for more monies from the victim. The victim subsequently realized that she was scammed when there was no job offered to her as promised.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of images from Police cameras and CCTVs, officers from Tanglin Police Division established the identity of the scammer and arrested him within 48 hours of the police report.

Police investigations are ongoing against the man for the offence of cheating under Section 420 of the Penal Code 1871, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine.
