Website defacement is a form of cybercrime where perpetrators gain unauthorised access to a website’s server or Content Management System (CMS) to alter the contents and the appearance of the website.

Usually, these perpetrators display their own messages or other content with the intent of sending a message or disrupting the normal operations or reputation of the website.
